How much is the entry fee? Early-bird registration for Cinco K Mayo before April 29, 2013 is $25. Early-bird registration for the Fun Run is $15. T-shirts are included with both the 5K and Fun Run. Late registration (after April 29, 2013 will be $30 for the 5K and $15 for the Fun Run. Students get the $15 price for the 5K.

Can I register in person?
Yes. Registration will be set up on the day of the race. Registration will open at 7am on Saturday, May 4th, 2013 in front of Stilwells.
How late can I register?
Online – The last day to register online is: April 3o, 2013
Mail in – Entries must be post-marked no later than April 30, 2013. Mail-in registrations postmarked after April 30th will be at the higher rate of $30 for the 5K and $15 for the Fun Run. T-shirts and goody bags cannot be guaranteed except for those who pre-register.
Is there prize money for placing in the top 3? No, but there will be a reward.
Is there an age minimum on the races? No, but any participant under 18 years of age on the day of the race must have parental consent (parent must sign waiver on child’s behalf).
What do I get for my registration fee?
Those who pre-register will receive a shirt, along with a race bag and any “goodies” we are able to aquire.
Can I have an extra t-shirt?
If there are left-over t-shirts, they will be for sale on race day.

What is included in my packet?
Your race number, a t-shirt if you ordered one, any final instructions that may be pertinent to the race, as well as “goodies” from local businesses will be included in your packet.
Course/Race Day Logistics
Where does the race start? The race starts and ends at the corner of Stilwell and 3rd Street in Historic Downtown De Queen.
Is there a map of the course online? Yes. You can see it HERE. One portion of the course is on grass through Herman Dierks Park, which helps avoid a highway and helps us keep the course at a 5K distance.
How do I get to downtown De Queen?
From Ft. Smith: Follow Hwy 71 South to De Queen. Stay straight at the first red light until you get to the 2nd red light and Hwy 41 and Stilwell. Turn Right (WEST) on Stilwell and go across the tracks until you see the banners for the race.
From Little Rock/Hot Springs: Follow Hwy 70 West to De Queen. At the intersection of Hwy 70/71 (2nd stop light), go left to the next stop light, at the corner of Hwy 41 and Stilwell. Turn right at the light (WEST) on Stilwell and go across the tracks until you see the banners for the race.
From Dallas: Take I-30 North towards Texarkana. Take Exit 201 at New Boston to get on Hwy 8. Turn Left to go North on Hwy 8 towards Foreman/De Queen. Turn left (WEST) at the first red light at the corner of Hwy 41 and Stilwell. Go across the tracks until you see the banners for the race. (Texas Hwy 8 become Arkansas Hwy 41 at the Red River).
Is the course certified? No
Where do I park on race day? There is considerable parking in downtown De Queen. We urge all locals to park a few blocks away so that out of town racers can find a parking spot more easily.
Am I allowed to walk the race? Yes, but be mindful that the course is open for an hour. If you are on the course longer than that you may not have volunteer support, and you may not be noted as a finisher (the timing team may not be available).
Are dogs allowed to run with me? Dogs are not allowed in the race.
Are strollers allowed on the course? Yes, we encourage you to bring your entire family to race. Jogging Strollers (only) will start near the back of the crowd, though, and you will have to work your way forward if you are good enough!
What is the elevation change for the course? Is the course hilly?
The course is mostly flat, but there are a 2 main hills you will encounter, one just before the 1/2 mile mark and the 2nd at the 2 mile mark. The elevation change can be found at the course link above.
Will the course be closed? The course is on a paved road in the small town of De Queen, AR which usually sees light traffic on a Saturday morning. We are working with local law enforcement to close the busiest portions of the course. We urge you to practice caution while running by NOT using headphones in both ears. Run facing the traffic and use sidewalks where available.
Can I leave items with volunteers along the course? No. Volunteers will not accept items.
How far apart are the aid/water stations? There will be 1 water/aid station along the route near the 2 mile marker. You may consider carrying a water bottle or wearing a water belt.
Are there bathroom facilities available? There are bathrooms available inside of Stilwell’s Restaurant.
Will medical personal be onsite? Yes, we will have a local physician, EMS Squad and AED available should any of these be needed.
Can I change races? Yes, you can change races. However, there will be no refund if you change from the 5K to the Fun Run, and you will be charged the difference between entry fees if you change from the Fun Run to the 5K. Corrections of personal data are made free of charge.
Can I get a refund? Sorry, no refunds or cancellations. We are happy to give you your goodie bag and shirt even if you are unable to run in the race for any reason. Contact us at to make arrangements for pickup of items.
Can I give/sell my number to another person? No. Entries and race numbers are not transferable from one person to another. Although it seems harmless, it could have dire consequences in an emergency situation to the individual using the registration and the entire participant field. It is imperative that the registration data associated with a specific race number belong to the individual actually participating in the race. Medical Personnel must be able to correctly identify any participants in need of treatment.
Can I have my friend run with me if he/she is not entered in the race? No. All participants and their friends (and family, too) must sign a waiver to be on the course.
Where can I meet my family and friends after the race? Friends and family are encouraged to gather at the finish line at Stilwell’s Restaurant to cheer everyone on!
Does everyone receive a t-shirt? Only if you purchase them when you pre-register. If there are leftover shirts, they will be for sale on the day of the race.
I’ve never run in a race. How do I prepare for the 5K? There are many different training schedules (see below) that can help you prepare for 5K. Most anyone can do this! Read the blog to read others’ stories. You may stop by AMP Fitness and ask for help training if you need or to get one of the handouts below.

Proceeds from the race, after all expenses, will benefit Legacy Initiatives, a local non-profit community development organization designed to empower lives and transform society. Our goal is to harness creativity and combine it with ethical leadership to develop sustainable communities. As an organization our efforts are concentrated on four core areas: Community Development & Wellness, Economic Development & Entrepreneurial Empowerment, Culture & Arts and Historic Renewal. While our efforts are not limited geographically and our relationships are borderless our primary emphasis is to serve and develop the people and communities of Southwest Arkansas.
